Monsoon Shootout Marks The New
Independent Cinema From India

Monsoon Shootout

Fortissimo Films has acquired international rights outside of India/South Asia and the Arte territories to Amit Kumar's MONSOON SHOOTOUT, which recently completed filming on location in Mumbai. Fortissimo's Michael J Werner commented, "Monsoon Shootout represents a new kind of independent cinema from India. Exciting, intelligent, fast paced and with a smart story, Amit and his producers have crafted a film that should resonate strongly with international audiences."

The thriller marks the feature debut of Kumar who received international acclaim for his award winning short The Bypass. Monsoon Shootout was shot on a budget approaching US$ 2 million, and is currently in post-production for a summer release.

The film stars Vijay Varma (Shor), Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Black Friday), Tannishtha Chatterjee (Brick Lane) and Neeraj Kabi (Gandhi of the Month). Moonsoon Shootout explores the impact that one's choices make on the lives of others. As heavy monsoon rains lash the badlands of Mumbai, Adi, a rookie cop out on his first assignment faces a life altering decision when he must decide whether to shoot or not to shoot.

Monsoon Shootout is a UK India production, produced by Trevor Ingman of Yaffle Films and co-produced by Anurag Kashyap, Guneet Monga, Martijn de Grunt, Arun Rangachari and Shahnaab Alam in association with Arte France. Asif Kapadia and Lee Stone are executive producing. The film was developed by Yaffle Films with the support of the UK Film Council. Rajeev Ravi (Dev D; No Smoking) served as director of photography.
