Cult Icon Barbarella Will Come Alive Again Under
The Pen Of Neal Purvis & Robert Wade For The
Gaumont/Canal+ Series Directed By Nicholas Refn

Jane Fonda - Barbarella
As the line continues to blur and become almost non-existent between the Film and Television industries, increasingly more of today's talent are easily migrating from one to the other.

Gaumont International Television, the production and distribution studio based in Los Angeles, a division of European-based motion picture studio Gaumont, and production partner on the project Canal+ have finalized a deal with scribe team Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to pen the previously announced upcoming series of Barbarella.

Purvis and Wade are the co-writing team behind five of the James Bond films from The World Is Not Enough to the recent Skyfall. Other Bond titles to their credit include Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Die Another Day. The BAFTA nominated duo also penned Let Him Have It, Johnny English and Stoned.

"I'm extremely excited that Neal and Robert have signed on to develop and write Barbarella with me," commented director and executive producer Nicolas Refn. "I'm certain that the combination of our creative forces will produce a show that is as enthralling as it is sexy." Robert Wade added, "Barbarella was always beguiling and transgressive and we are excited to reimagine her journey in the company of Mr. Refn."

Barbarella will be based on the iconic character created by Jean-Claude Forest and made famous in the 1968 film of the same name staring Jane Fonda. Nicolas Refn will direct and executive produce the series alongside Martha De Laurentiis. Co-Executive Producers are Julien Forest & Jean-Marc Lofficier.

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are repped by UTA and Casarotto Ramsey & Associates Limited, Nicolas Refn is repped by WME and Martha De Laurentiis by CAA.
