Solo: A Star Wars Story – Festival de Cannes 2018 - Out Of Competition

A Loss To Humanity & The Film Industry

Robbie Little
On his way to Cannes, the world and our film industry lost one of the kindest, most sincere, caring and generous human beings in spirit and deed it has ever being my privilege to call a friend - Robbie Little of The Little Film Company. Along with Tony Blanco and Ed Carlin, these independents who did so much for the independent business, as human beings had qualities that are rare. I had and have the privilege to know these fine men and their wives, partners and family as friends and my life has been forever enriched. Everyone has a Tony or Ed story of kindness. I believe everyone also has a Robbie and Ellen story of kindness and generosity. Mine is back in the '70s as MD of Screen International on a visit to Rome. I had only just met them and checking out at the weekend discovered that the Regina on the Via Veneto did not take Diners. We all got on so well, and with no one else to call, I called and explained, and they typically said 'no problem,' come over to the Regina and paid my bill on their card. That kindness and generosity has stayed with me, and the respect and fondness I have for the great partnership of Ellen and Robbie is hard to put into words. Simply ‘rare birds of the same feather.’ I know for all of us who knew Robbie and know Ellen our hearts goes out to her in this moment of sheer shock and immense grief.

Each year relentlessly it seems Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate Festival de Cannes, is taken to task for the films chosen at the Festival de Cannes ... Read more
