The 70th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival: the Berlinale Special Gala opens tonight with My Salinger Year starring Sigourney Weaver, by writer/director Philippe Falardeau at the Berlinale Palast at 7.20pm. For the first time the Berlinale Special Gala and the premiere of the opening film will be broadcast in cinemas in four German cities, the CinemaxX cinemas in Hamburg-Dammtor, Munich, Essen and Halle (Saale). Viewers will be following the event, presented by Samuel Finzi, live on the big screen. The Minister of State and Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media Prof. Monika Grütters, the Mayor of Berlin Michael Müller; Jury President Jeremy Irons; Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian and Executive Director Mariette Rissenbeek will be in attendance. My Salinger Year follows aspiring poet Joanna (Margaret Qualley), who works as an assistant to literary agent Margaret (Sigourney Weaver). Joanna’s job is to answer the fan mail of cult author J.D. Salinger, the pride of the agency. Philippe Falardeau comments: “I'm thrilled that My Salinger Year opens the 2020 Berlinale tonight. We couldn’t have hoped for a better world premiere. In the past, the Berlinale has opened with wonderful films from established directors; needless to say, I’m honoured to be on that list. I have fond memories of the festival where one of my features screened at Generation in 2009. Margaret Qualley and Sigourney Weaver and myself are looking forward to tonight. Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian responds: “We are delighted to open the 70th edition of the festival tonight with a coming-of-age story that takes the viewpoint of the protagonist who has a fresh perspective, which is in no way naïve. Philippe Falardeau depicts the small NYC literary world of the 1990s with humour and a sweet note, but he never forgets the 21st century we are living in or the unifying role that art plays in all of our lives.” My Salinger Year was produced by micro_scope (Canada) and Parallel Films (Ireland). The Canadian-Irish production is based on the novel of the same name by US writer Joanna Rakoff. Memento Films International is handling international sales and UTA handles US sales.

Nathalie Emmanuel Gets Fast & Furious
In Quibi Series Die Hart With Kevin Hart
The effervescent and talented French actress Nathalie Emmanuel co-stars in the upcoming series Die Hart from Quibi, with American comedienne Kevin Hart. Quibi, the short-form mobile video platform founded in 2018 by Jeffrey Katzenberg, is due to launch in April 2020.Playing a fictionalized version of himself, Hart is tired of being the comedic sidekick. He dreams of being a leading man and star of an action movie. He gets his wish when a famous director offers him a dream part – but there’s a catch: he must first train at the world’s greatest action star school, which is run by a lunatic. Hart is pushed to his limits by a tough-minded rival student (Nathalie Emmanuel) and the action school coach. To survive Hart must encounter a series of hilarious, over-the-top action sequences and face his fears if he wants to land the role of a lifetime. Nathalie Emmanuel will next be seen in the 9th installment of the Fast & Furious franchise reprising the role of computer hacker Ramsey for the third time. Previous starring roles include HBO’s Game of Thrones and Hulu’s miniseries Four Weddings and a Funeral. Production for the show begins this month in Atlanta.Emmanuel is represented by ICM Partners, AJ Management in UK, Untitled Entertainment and Stone Genow.
