Manuel Puig's Prelude To Kiss Of The Spider Woman
Acquired By D Street Media>
Dexter Davis, the CEO of D Street Media Group has acquired
the North American rights for Perla, a compilation of celebrated Argentinean
author Manuel Puig's two short stories: Un destino Melodramatico (A Melodramatic
Destiny) and Escrito en las Estrellas (Written on the Stars). Puig’s short
stories were a prelude to the main character in his novel Kiss of The Spider
Woman, which was adapted to the Academy-Award Winning film starring William
Hurt.
The screenplay, written and directed by Santiago Giralt,
centers on Juan Ángel, an Argentine male teenager who starts an exploration of
his female side which leads to both tragedy and liberation. Perla is produced by
Mys Producción and co-produced by Fabrica De Cine.
Dexter Davis, CEO of D Street Media said, "The script is
an exciting and compelling adaptation of the world famous writer Manuel Puig's
short stories Un destino Melodramatico and Escrito en las Estrellas. D Street is
thrilled to come on board early to be a part of such a wonderful production."
The D Street Releasing modus operandi is the acquisition
of Latin American titles and making a foray into international productions as an
Executive Producer.
Executive Producer Mili Rogue Pitt said, "D Street
Releasing is a smart, creative company with new ideas about international films
in the US...It's a real pleasure to work with Dexter Davis and D Street's
president Jay Milla. We look forward to delivering them a beautiful film."
