Patches The Beaver
Promotes
Multiculturalism
& The Importance Of Friendship |
Patches the Beaver, the Canadian bestseller book from author Shane Gauthier
introduces the award-winning tale to children across the United States. The
first book, Welcome to Harmony Woods, tells the story of how Patches the Beaver
and his mother move into Harmony Woods and meet new friends: Duke of Cannot,
Feather Goose, Lucky Rabbit, Speedy Tortoise, and Star Squirrel. Patches’ new
friends soon learn that we are all connected, patched together by friendship no
matter where we are from, no matter who we are, and no matter what we look like.
This series of books celebrates and invites the reader to explore the diversity
found in the communities of the world.
“As an educator, I believe we have a duty to teach our children about cultural
diversity, the value and importance of friendship and respect,” says Gauthier.
The educational value of the book stems from Gauthier’s goal of promoting
multiculturalism not only in the classroom but also in the home. Schools in
Canada are already using this groundbreaking book as a teaching tool for
children to learn about multiculturalism. Each character has a distinct
personality and throughout the story, they learn to solve problems and promote
friendship, respect and consideration, demonstrating the key elements appeal.
Canadian Congresswoman, Ms. Pearl Calahasen says, “With President Barack Obama
making history our children are bearing witness to a new era of hope and the
realization that dreams do come true regardless of any perceived barriers.
Patches the Beaver is a perfect channel to teach this to children everywhere.
Gauthier’s creation fills a void that has long since been overlooked. It is a
must have book for all teachers and parents!”
Gauthier is currently seeking to partner with an animation producer to bring his
groundbreaking series to television.
