The blurring line between Feature Film and television and the interconnectivity of the emerging platforms has seen MIPTV and its sister event MIPCOM move in the last two years to aggressively promote the events highlighting star talent. That move is a combined progression of talent cross the spectrum of production and distribution looking for alternative resources to fund 'content', without relying on the traditional sources, and the event itself repositioning its profile to capture a simultaneously decreasing and expanding footprint.
Jean Reno, Franka Potente, Julian Fellowes, Elle Macpherson, Geraldine Somerville, Toby Jones, Celia Imrie, Deena Nicole Cortese, Vinny Guadagnino, Nikki Griffin and Tiffany Brouwer are just some of the stars who are attending MIPTV. International star and French actor Jean Reno will be at MIPTV with a new international series, Le Grand. Created by Rene Balcer and shot in Paris, the project marks Reno's television debut as the lead of an international series. Produced by Atlantique Productions in partnership with TF1 and distributor SevenOne International who holds the distribution rights, full details will be unveiled at the press conference tomorrow (April 1).
Other star studded events at MIPTV include ITV Studios Global Entertainment's anticipated international mini-series Titanic, presented at a Gala Screening on (1 April) marking the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship. Geraldine Somerville, Celia Imrie, Toby Jones and Glen Blackhall, who star in Titanic, will join scriptwriter Julian Fellowes, Oscar winner for Gosford Park (2001) and an Emmy Award winner for Downton Abbey (2010). Also attending MIPTV for the Gala event are the producers Chris Thompson and Simon Vaughan from Lookout Point.
Keeping the limelight on high profile talent from the big screen, Oscar-winning producer Iain Canning will take part in the MIPTV Drama CoProXchange program and present his new upcoming drama Top of The Lake, with a cast that includes Elisabeth Moss, Holly Hunter, and Peter Mullan to be directed by Oscar-winner Jane Campio. BAFTA Award-winning British TV writer and producer Paul Abbott (Shameless, State of Play) will also be taking part in the MIPTV Drama CoProXchange program and will present his new project Hit and Miss, to star Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee ChloE Sevigny.
The red carpet will be rolled out in front of the Martinez Hotel to welcome the stars and VIP guests at the MIPTV Opening Party on Sunday 1 April which starts at 7.30pm, with the International Digital Emmy® Awards ceremony at 8.30pm.
