K5 International Showcase Is An Eclectic Feast Of Quality Films

Shut Up Uapth1
K5 brings a raft of new and eclectic acquisitions to the international marketplace for buyers at Cannes. Against strong sales competition, the company secured the international sales rights to award-winning director Mira Nair's new film, The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

K5 Co-Founding Partner Oliver Simon says, "Mira is one of the most important filmmakers working today. She challenges and provokes, enthralls and entertains in equal measure. It is a great pleasure to be working with her and Lydia by supporting this film across the globe." "At its heart, Mira's film is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that will keep movie-goers guessing until the very last moment," adds K5 Sales Chief Carl Clifton. "The film delivers a rich and challenging experience, offering the kind of exciting, edgy and intelligent fare that films like Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and The Constant Gardener delivered to international audiences."

Based on the best-selling novel by Mohsin Hamid, which The Guardian in 2009 cited as one of the defining stories of the decade, The Reluctant Fundamentalist stars Kate Hudson, Riz Ahmed, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schreiber, Martin Donovan and Om Puri and is written by Mohsin Hamid & Ami Boghani, and William Wheeler.

Marking the second major international production to receive financing from the Doha Film Institute (DFI), The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a Cine Mosaic and Mirabai Film production, produced by Lydia Dean Pilcher. Cinematographer is Declan Quinn with production design by Michael Carlin.

Executive Director of DFI Amanda Palmer said, "The Reluctant Fundamentalist is vintage Mira Nair, a true cinematic visionary. Visually stunning and textured, with standout performances, it is an important story that continues to resonate with audiences and we're confident it will prove to be one of Mira's finest works. We're thrilled to welcome K5, a team who believed in this script and Mira two years ago, and who is now committed to ensuring this important story reaches globally engaged audiences to experience its powerful narrative of love, conviction and tolerance. This film is a passion project for us all".

Nair's longtime collaborator, Lydia Dean Pilcher, stated, "We are very excited to be working with K5 as our new partner in connecting this powerful story to audiences around the world, as citizens of a shared planet."

Nair adds, "In this day and age, to have creative freedom to make a film that is political, timely and multi-layered, is a gift."

Based on the best-selling novel, The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a riveting international political thriller. It follows the story of a young Pakistani man, chasing corporate success on Wall Street, who ultimately finds himself embroiled in a conflict between his American Dream, a hostage crisis, and the enduring call of his family's homeland.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist was filmed in Atlanta, Delhi, Istanbul, New York City and Lahore, Pakistan

K5's New York Head of Acquisitions, Erica Motley acquired the film alongside Oliver Simon. K5 Co-Founding Partner Daniel Baur, Josh Grode for DFI and Lydia Dean Pilcher for Cine Mosaic negotiated the deal.

K5 is showcasing footage of the film during Cannes alongside a first showing of promo material from Bille August's Night Train to Lisbon with Jeremy Irons, Mélanie Laurent and Jack Huston and market screenings of King Kelly and Girls Against Boys. The company also has the Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen starrer Very Good Girls and the Paul Walker starrer Vehicle 19 on its Cannes line-up.
