Fortissimo Escorts Miss Lovely To
The Premiere In Un Certain Regard

Miss Lovely
Every year, with uncanny flair and unique cinematic radar, Fortissimo Films acquires edgy and contemporary films that make their way into some sector of the Cannes Film Festival competitive lineup. Among its offerings to international buyers this year, Fortissimo has acquired international rights to Miss Lovely, Indian Director Ashim Ahluwalia's highly anticipated feature film debut, which premieres in Official Selection, Un Certain Regard May 24th.

Fortisssimo's Chairman, Michael J. Werner, said: "Ashim is a true original on the Indian cinema scene. He's an auteur and an intellectual combining a vibrant imagination with commercial sensibilities. With Miss Lovely he compels us to enter the exotic, erotic and visceral universe of the Bollywood underbelly that is so atmospheric, so jarring and so unique that we can't turn away. We are so thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him and his team on this amazing film."

Director Ashim Ahluwalia said: "Fortissimo has been a company that I've always been sort of obsessed with. I mean, I know their early catalogue better than most people should. They've backed Hou Hsiao Hsien, Wong Kar Wai and much of the contemporary cinema that I love. I am very happy to see Miss Lovely with them and amongst those incredible films. I am looking forward to working together with Michael and the Fortissimo team."

Ahluwalia, who previously directed the award-winning documentary John & Jane, produced Miss Lovely under the Future East banner along with Shumona Goel, Sanjay Shah, and Pinaki Chatterjee. Shot by renowned cinematographer Mohanan (DON) over the span of several years on a multi-million dollar budget, the film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui (KAHAANI), Niharika Singh (former Miss India), and Anil George.

Set against the colorfully garish, seedy, and exotic backdrop of Bombay's "C" movie business of the 1980's when the underbelly of Bollywood churned out sleazy social dramas, campy horror films and erotic bandit pictures with titles like Dolly Darling and Lady James Bond, Miss Lovely tells the tale of two brothers immersed in this universe who eventually turn on each other in a sordid tale of betrayal, doomed love, jealousy and revenge.
