Documentary films based on current affairs are gaining in popularity. During the recent TIFF event, the documentary genre was high on the slate of films that were showcased.
New York based LBYL Films headed by Salim Khassa produced The Bottom Billion, which features some of the world's renown Economic observers including Mohammed Yunis, Nobel Laureate; Susan Davis, head of BRAC USA and Alex Counts CEO & president of Grameen Foundation. Salim Khassa commented: "The effect of the meltdown of 2008, has been felt internationally, but particularly by the people in the lower socio-economic group in countries where they are at the core of the manufacturing structure. The film tackles the desperate issues faced by this sector of the population as a result of the meltdown."
The Bottom Billion documentary, which highlights the economic crash in 2008, features provocative interviews with key experts yielding a creative perspective on the contributing causes. At the fifth anniversary of the Market crash of 2008 and the onset of the great "Recession," this story the Bottom Billion is a timely review leading to the questions " Can another crash happen? & When?" The Bottom Billion focuses on seeing the future from the prospective of those most in need.
